آيَةٌ

āyah

sign / verse / miracle

A1nounroot: أ-ي-ي

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

inna fī khalqi as-samāwāti wal-arḍi la-āyātin li-ulī al-albāb

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth are signs for those of understanding (3:190)

نَفْسٌ

nafs

soul / self

A1nounroot: ن-ف-س

يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ

yā ayyatuhā an-nafsu al-muṭmaʾinnatu irjiʿī ilā rabbik

O tranquil soul, return to your Lord (89:27-28)

حَقٌّ

ḥaqq

truth / right / reality

A1nounroot: ح-ق-ق

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ

dhālika bi-anna Allāha huwa al-ḥaqq

That is because Allah is the Truth (22:6)

سَبِيلٌ

sabīl

way / path

A1nounroot: س-ب-ل

وَأَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ

wa-anna hādhā ṣirāṭī mustaqīman fattabiʿūhu wa-lā tattabiʿū as-subul

And this is My path, straight, so follow it; and do not follow other ways (6:153)

عَذَابٌ

ʿadhāb

punishment / torment

A1nounroot: ع-ذ-ب

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ

inna ʿadhāba rabbika lawāqiʿ

Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur (52:7)

جَعَلَ

jaʿala

he made / he placed / he rendered

A1verbroot: ج-ع-ل

وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ آيَتَيْنِ

wa-jaʿalnā al-layla wan-nahāra āyatayn

And We made the night and day two signs (17:12)

آمَنَ

āmana

he believed

A1verbroot: أ-م-ن

آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ

āmana ar-rasūlu bimā unzila ilayhi min rabbihi wal-muʾminūn

The Messenger believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so did the believers (2:285)

أَتَى

atā

he came / he brought

أَتَى أَمْرُ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ

atā amru Allāhi falā tastaʿjilūh

The command of Allah has come, so do not hasten it (16:1)

رَحْمَةٌ

raḥmah

mercy / compassion

A1nounroot: ر-ح-م

وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa-raḥmatī wasiʿat kulla shayʾ

And My mercy encompasses all things (7:156)

شَيْءٌ

shayʾ

thing

A1nounroot: ش-ي-أ

وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ

wa-lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shayʾin min ʿilmihī illā bimā shāʾ

And they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills (2:255)

ذَلِكَ

dhālika

ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ

dhālika al-kitābu lā rayba fīh

That is the Book about which there is no doubt (2:2)

خَيْرٌ

khayr

good / better / goodness

وَافْعَلُوا الْخَيْرَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

wafʿalū al-khayra laʿallakum tufliḥūn

And do good that you may succeed (22:77)
