Grammar
Masculine noun. Plural: ظِلَالٌ (ẓilāl). Adjective: ظَلِيلٌ (providing dense shade). In desert Arabia, shade was the ultimate comfort — hence its prominence in Paradise descriptions.
Culture
Shade in Paradise is a recurring Quranic image. The Prophet ﷺ also described seven types of people who will be shaded by God's Throne on Judgment Day.
