Culture

This supplication from Surah Al-Fatiha is recited by every Muslim at least 17 times daily in the five prayers. It is the most repeated prayer in Islam.

The Quran describes itself as hudā (guidance). Seeking guidance is the central request in Surah Al-Fatiha, recited in every unit of prayer.

Feminine noun (maṣdar). Verb: هَدَى (q053). Two types of hidāyah: showing the path (prophetic) and enabling the heart to accept (divine). Only God grants the second.

Culture

This verse was revealed about the Prophet's uncle Abū Ṭālib — even the Prophet ﷺ couldn't guide his beloved uncle. Guidance ultimately comes from God.
