Masculine noun. Plural: آمَالٌ (āmāl). Distinguished from رَجَاء (hope in God) — أَمَل often has a negative connotation of false worldly hopes that distract from the afterlife.

Culture

The Quran warns against being deceived by long-term worldly hopes (ṭūl al-amal) — they breed procrastination in spiritual matters.
