dhahabat Laylā wa zawjuhā ilā maṭʿamin ʿarabiyyin lil-ʿashāʾi. jalasā ʿinda ṭāwilaatin bi-jānibi an-nāfidhati. jāʾa an-nādilu wa qāla: masāʾu al-khayri, mādhā turīdāni? qālat Laylā: urīdu shūrbata ʿadasin wa dajājan mashwiyyan min faḍlika. wa qāla zawjuhā: urīdu kabāban wa aruzzan wa salaṭatan. ṭalabā ayḍan māʾan wa ʿaṣīra burtuqālin. kāna aṭ-ṭaʿāmu ladhīdhan jiddan. qālat Laylā: hādhā afḍalu maṭʿamin fī al-madīnati! dafaʿā al-ḥisāba wa tarakā baqshīshan lin-nādili.
English translation
Layla and her husband went to an Arab restaurant for dinner. They sat at a table by the window. The waiter came and said: Good evening, what would you like? Layla said: I want lentil soup and grilled chicken, please. Her husband said: I want kebab, rice, and a salad. They also ordered water and orange juice. The food was very delicious. Layla said: This is the best restaurant in the city! They paid the bill and left a tip for the waiter.
